Montreal hosts international humour conference
The seed of the International Society for Humor Studies was planted at a small meeting in Wales three decades ago. Today, the organization hosts a yearly conference, where serious scholarship about funny business gets discussed, and where outstanding graduate students in the field are recognized before their peers.
According to a piece in Le Devoir, this year’s conference is in Montreal. The confluence of anniversaries (Montreal’s 375th, 35th for the Just for Laughs Festival, and 5 years for the Observatoire de l’humor) just made it the perfect choice. Committee member Louise Richer (EMBA'16) says that the research is important because of what humour reveals, saying “Tell me what makes you laugh and I’ll tell you who you are.”
