M.A. Education & Society - Prospective Students

NEW APPLICATION POLICY:

Please note the following requirements for all MA Thesis students' Personal Statements:

  1. Applicants must identify two faculty members who might potentially act as their research SUPERVISOR. This information should be clearly indicated at the very top of their statement. It is not necessary to contact these POTENTIAL supervisors but to IDENTIFY two professors whose research area is of interest to you.
  2. The Personal Statement should also include a clearly articulated mention of the student’s research topic as well as the research trends and professional experiences that have led to the topic (3-4 paragraphs).

The M.A. in Education and Society encourages students to study educational issues manifested in cultural, historical, philosophical, economic and political contexts. The main focus of this program may take two different routes. One option would be in Culture, Values and Education which may focus on, for example, philosophy, art and aesthetics, values, spirituality and religion, gender issues or international and comparative education. The other main focus of this program may focus on Teaching, Learning, and Curriculum which emphasizes current perspectives on pedagogy and curriculum, teacher education, in- and out-of-school learning, practitioner research, and classroom practice. This M.A. program brings to bear diverse applied and critical theoretical perspectives including, for example, philosophy, sociology, cultural studies, policy studies, gender studies, critical pedagogy, and multiliteracies.

Program Overview
