Crossing a Virtual Stage: The Class of 2020

Published: 23 July 2020

At a time when large-scale in-person gatherings are on hold, ۲ݮƵ University looked for meaningful ways to celebrate the Class of 2020. In honour of more than 600 new graduates from Faculty of Education, was launched on June 19th. It features snapshots of our graduates, congratulations from ۲ݮƵ Principal and Vice-Chancellor Suzanne Fortier and Chancellor Michael Meighen, and special messages from guest speakers Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Premier François Legault, and ۲ݮƵ alumnus and Superbowl 2020 star Dr. Laurent Duvernay-Tardif.

Leading up to the video launch, students were provided with digital and printable party favours to help them celebrate this milestone achievement despite the safety restrictions imposed by COVID-19. Online novelties, such as gifs and electronic stickers, allowed students to show their ۲ݮƵ pride using the hashtags #۲ݮƵGrad2020 and #۲ݮƵEducation. A downloadable Grad Party Pack provided printable props and cut-outs for at-home photos and small-scale family gatherings.

Graduate, Sarah Delaney-Leduc, posted her photo with the caption “Waiting to graduate (virtually) from ۲ݮƵ for the second time! Getting my Masters of Education: Educational Psychology—glad I kept my cap from 2018 B.Ed!”

The Faculty is exceptionally proud of ۲ݮƵ Education's graduating class for their resilience and perseverance, and we look forward to celebrating together at an in-person convocation ceremony in spring 2021.
