In-Community programs are offered through the Office of First Nations and Inuit Education (OFNIE) in select Indigenous communities in the province of Quebec. OFNIE's mandate is toÌýsupport the development of high-quality, Indigenous-controlled education systems by designing and delivering community-based teacher education in close partnership with local Indigenous school boards.ÌýStudents benefit from not having to leave their home communities, families, and support networks to receive a high-caliber university education. Programs may differ from community to community, but overall students can choose to pursue teacher certification programs, a Master’s-level program, and an array of professional development certificates, including educational leadership and language revitalization programs. A significant portion of OFNIE courses are offered in Cree, Inuktitut, Kanien’kehá:ka, and Mi’gmaq.
