The Department of Emergency Medicine is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Joel Turner as the new Chief of Emergency Medicine at the Jewish General Hospital (CIUSSS du Centre-Ouest-de-l'Île-de-Montréal). Dr. Turner, a highly respected and experienced emergency physician, brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to this critical role.
Dr. Turner has been practicing Emergency Medicine for 22 years and is an Assistant Professor at the Academic Department of Emergency Medicine at ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ University, where he served until recently as Associate Chair (Clinical Practice). He has held the position of Fellowship Director for ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ University's Emergency Medicine Ultrasound Fellowship since its inauguration 2013, and has previously served as the Program Director of ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ's Emergency Medicine FRCPC Residency Program.
In addition to his clinical and academic roles, Dr. Turner has been recognized for his outstanding contributions to point of care ultrasound education. In 2019, he received the Educator of the Year Award from the Canadian Point of Care Ultrasound Society for his exceptional work in undergraduate, postgraduate, and continuing medical education.
The Department of Emergency Medicine would also like to express its sincere gratitude to Dr. Marc Afilalo, the outgoing JGH Chief of Emergency Medicine, for his countless years of dedicated leadership and service. Dr. Afilalo will continue in his role as the Chair of the Academic Department of Emergency Medicine at ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ University, where his expertise and guidance will continue to benefit the medical community.
