Profile photo of Dr. Lars GrantIt is with great pleasure that we announce the appointment of Dr. Lars Grant to the newly created position of Associate Chair, Research in the ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ Department of Emergency Medicine, effective January 1, 2021.

In the role of Associate Chair, Dr. Grant will focus on building the departmental research base and increasing overall departmental research funding. Dr. Grant will work in close collaboration with the ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ sites to promote excellence in research.

Dr. Grant completed a Ph.D. in Theoretical Physics at Harvard University in 2008 before embarking on a career in medicine. He subsequently obtained his medical degree from ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ University in 2011, completed his residency and certification in Emergency Medicine at St. Mary’s Hospital in 2014.

Dr. Grant is passionate about Research and one of his stated goals is to foster collaboration with ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ and partner institutions as well as with external stakeholders to optimize the delivery of research programs and initiatives across all sites. His primary research focus is on the development, deployment and assessment of artificial intelligence tools in the emergency department. Most recently, he successfully established a research program at the Lady Davis Institute and in the JGH department of emergency medicine for which he obtained $250,000 in funding from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council. His presence on the national scene will help to facilitate the exposure of the Department of Emergency Medicine’s current and future contributions to the field.
