Safety Rules & Regulations

Objectives

One of the Faculty workshop objectives is to have and maintain its clean records of no work related injuries. The workshop considers that the most important aspect of its operation or administration is the health and safety of its employees, students and users. This is achieved by maintaining safe working methods and healthy working conditions, by developing and promoting a culture focused on awareness, open communication, safety education and supervision.

The workshop, with the help of Environmental Health and Safety Department (EHS) at ۲ݮƵ and with the help of external safety consultants, meets the requirement of the Commission des normes, de l'équité, de la santé et de la sécurité du travail . CNESST was satisfied with the machine guarding arrangements.

The Faculty Workshop Safety Committee (WSC) oversees all safety aspects related to the workshop, staff, students and users. The committee members represent all employees, technicians, management, academic members and students.

This is a “Safety First” environment. All shop users must wear safety glasses, their feet must be fully covered by safety boots (or the toe guard) with socks, long hair must be tucked back with elastic bands or clips, shorts or short skirts and loose clothing are forbidden. Watches, bracelets, rings and dangling necklaces must be removed during machining operations. The shop is supervised at all times during the posted hours of operation.

Workshop Orientation and Safety Session

Shop users receive orientation; they are shown the layout of the machine shop, identification of all the machinery, cutting tools, measuring instruments, hand tools, First Aid Kit, and Eye Wash Station. Brief explanations as to how the machines are used. Focus is on safety and working safely. This orientation is usually delivered to students enrolled in MECH201.
