Medical students voice their opinion on Bill 20
On March 30th, 2015 ۲ݮƵ Medical Students participated in a historic demonstration at the Quebec National Assembly in protest of the proposed Bill 20.
“As Medical Students, we are against this Bill for a number of reasons, which has prompted our student body to participate in its first ever student demonstration. Our student body is one that values generalism. Today, all of our students, regardless of their career paths, are speaking out against a bill that de-emphasizes the importance of preventative medicine, and aims to impose a set of quotas to practicing Family Physicians.
At ۲ݮƵ, we fear that these quotas stand to promote “Assembly Line” medicine, dehumanizing our patients and reducing the quality of their healthcare experience. Through the perspective of physicianship, we recognize that patients are worth much more than just numbers. We hope that today’s historic demonstration is effective in having our voice, as the future physicians of Quebec, heard by the government and by the general public.
Finally, we thank our professors and teachers in the department of Family Medicine. We are deeply grateful for the teaching and mentorship that we receive from you, and we are proud to stand against this bill as one united student body.”
