VPN UPDATE: Cisco AnyConnect has been replaced by Cisco Secure Client
The way we currently access ۲ݮƵ’s VPN (via Cisco AnyConnect) has been replaced by Cisco Secure Client. Cisco Secure Client is an upgraded version of Cisco AnyConnect and offers enhanced features, security and performance.
Already have Cisco AnyConnect (older version) installed?
If you already have the Cisco AnyConnect app installed, starting as of October 10, when connecting to VPN, you will be updated to Cisco Secure Client. To initiate this update, locate the Cisco AnyConnect app and connect as usual (enter your ۲ݮƵ credentials and follow 2FA instructions). A window will prompt up indicating the new version, Cisco Secure Client, is being installed.
After this update, to access the Cisco Secure Client app, follow the steps below according to your device:
Windows device
1. Find the Cisco Secure Client app byusing one of the following search methods:
a) Type “Cisco Secure Client” in the Windows search bar
b) Locate its icon in the bottom-right toolbar (if hidden; click the arrow (^) to show hidden icons)
c) Create a new shortcut (existing shortcuts linked to Cisco AnyConnect will no longer work)
2. Once opened, you may notice various applications within it, such as Secure Endpoint. Click “Connect” to access SecureVPN and follow the standard login procedure.
Mac device
1. Find the Cisco Secure Client app by using one of the following search methods:
a) Go to the “Applications” folder, open the "Cisco" folder and double-click on the “Cisco Secure Client” app to open
Note: If you do not see the Cisco Secure Client app in your Cisco folder, double-click "Cisco AnyConnect" and the app should automatically update to Cisco Secure Client.
b) Create a new shortcut (existing shortcuts linked to Cisco AnyConnect will no longer work)
2. Once you’ve opened the Cisco Secure Client app, enter “securevpn.mcgill.ca” in the connect window and click “Connect” to access SecureVPN and follow the standard login procedure.
Linux device
1. Find the Cisco Secure Client app by using one of the following search methods:
a) Go to the "Launcher", double-click the "Cisco Secure Client" icon
b) Go to the "Applications" folder and find "Cisco Secure Client"
2. Once you’ve opened the Cisco Secure Client app, enter “securevpn.mcgill.ca” in the connect window and click “Connect” to access SecureVPN and follow the standard login procedure.
