The Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures is inviting applications for course lecturer positions to teach in Winter 2025.


Position Summary:

A Course Lecturer assignment includes all or part of the following teaching activities:

a) preparation of the Course and Course plan;
b) delivery of the Course;
c) evaluation of students;
d) submitting to the University a report on student attendance and student grades;
e) supervision of Teaching Assistants or any other teaching support staff;
f) upon request, review of their students’ grades;
g) meeting with students, being available to answer questions and give advice concerning Course content and requirements;

Employees shall perform their duties in compliance with the Pedagogical Regulation and as specified in the administrative directives of the Hiring Unit. An Employee shall use appropriate pedagogical methods and material.


RUSS 211 001 Elementary Russian Language 2(3 credits)

Teaching Schedule: Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays (10:35-11:25 am)

Course Start/End Date: January 6 to April 11, 2025

Course details: Russian Language; continuation of RUSS 210.

Teaching Qualification Requirements: M.A. or Ph.D. in Russian or registered in the Russian Studies graduate program at ۲ݮƵ. Native or near native fluency in Russian required.

Experience: A minimum of two semesters as instructor of a course at a similar level or to be a graduate student in Russian Studies in the Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures at ۲ݮƵ University. Course lecturers must demonstrate a familiarity with the course materials used in Russian Studies language courses.

ITAL 290 - 001 – Commedia dell”Arte (3 credits)

Teaching Schedule: Fridays, 2:35-5:25 pm

Course Start/End Date: January 6 to April 11, 2025

Course details: Playhouses, actors, stage techniques, masks and scenarios of the "Commedia Dell'Arte". This course consists of an academic component as well as scripting, directing and organizing a performance. This course is taught in Italian.

Teaching Qualification Requirements: M.A. or Ph.D. in Theatre studies or in Italian studies with specialization or experience in theatre. Native or near-native fluency in Italian and fluency in English.

Experience: Demonstrable experience as instructor of a course at a similar level.

ITAL 307 - 001 Topics in Italian Culture (3 credits)

Teaching Schedule: Tuesday/Thursday 8:35-9:55

Course Start/End Date: January 6 to April 11, 2025

Course details:Selected topics in Italian culture (topics may vary and may concentrate on one or more of the following areas: geography, history, music, art history, political science, and/or literature. This course is taught in English.

Teaching Qualification Requirements: Ph.D. in Italian or registered in the Italian Studies graduate program at ۲ݮƵ at the ABD level. Native fluency in English. Fluency or near native fluency in Italian, an asset.

Experience:A minimum of two semesters as instructor of a course at a similar level or to be a PhD student in Italian Studies in the Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures at ۲ݮƵ University.

Course details: Intensive study of selected topics and periods in German film history.

Teaching Qualification Requirements:

Education: Ph.D. in German or ABD in the German Studies graduate program at ۲ݮƵ. Native or near native fluency in German required. Preferred demonstrated expertise on film studies.

Experience:A minimum of two semesters as instructor of a course at a similar level or to be an ABD graduate student in German Studies in the Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures at ۲ݮƵ University.

Position:

ITAL 290 001 Commedia Dell’Arte – 1 position at 90 hours – Instructor: Rania Metni

*Hours are dependent on course enrolment

Job Description:

The TA will assist the instructor in the organization of the course and of the Commedia Dell'Arte theatrical performance, which will take place at the end of the term. This will include organizing workshops on script writing and costume design, scheduling rehearsals and assisting in stage management activities, as well as developing material for the promotion of the event.

Qualifications:

Must be a registered graduate student (M.A. or Ph.D.) in the Italian Studies Program, in the Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures at ۲ݮƵ University. Experience working with a theater production team and/or in organizing workshops related to Commedia Dell'Arte performances; excellent organization and communication skills; native or near-native fluency in Italian and English.
