Stephen Yue
Distinguished James ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ Professor, Lorne Trottier Chair in Aerospace Engineering
Ph.D. in Metallurgy, University of Leeds, England
B.Sc. in Metallurgy, University of Leeds, England
Professor Stephen Yue obtained a B.Sc. and Ph.D. in Metallurgy at Leeds University (UK) in the mid-seventies. He became Assistant Professor at ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ in 1989 and was promoted to full Professor, in 2003. He was Chairman of the Department of Mining and Materials Engineering from 2007 to 2015 and is currently the Director of the ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ Institute for Aerospace Engineering and the co-director of the ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ Hydrogen Embrittlement Facility.
He is a physical metallurgist, researching into high temperature plastic deformation processing to control the microstructure and properties of metals. With CFI awards, in 2004 ($3 M) and 2021 ($4 M) for aerospace materials and manufacturing processes, he has developed, with the National Research Council (Boucherville), research in cold spray, which is a solid state powder consolidation method involving supersonic acceleration of powders that bond on impact, He has published over 300 technical papers in journals and holds four patents.
