ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ

Chair's Welcome

The diversity and scope of the field in which mechanical engineers operate is stunning---We analyze and design massive power conversion units needed to propel huge aircraft travelling at near-supersonic speeds; and we design micro-robots that travel through blood vessels to perform delicate operations. Moreover, that field has changed: while we once worked mainly on mechanisms and machines, our interests have broadened to the study of advanced materials, biological systems and micro/nano devices.

Mechanical Engineering at ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ offers students an opportunity to spend their years of study alongside some of the best students and researchers from around the world. Our students come from across Canada and beyond, while our professors have studied at the best universities world-wide, including ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ.

At ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ, you will have the opportunity to undertake a rigorous and challenging curriculum, but also to be involved in numerous extra-curricular activities, such as Formula SAE, ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ Robotics, and the ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ Rocket Team.Ìý Beyond the Department, we have strong ties to the ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ Institute of Aerospace Engineering (MIAE) and the Trottier Institute for Sustainability in Engineering and Design (TISED), which themselves give students opportunities to participate in internships, workshops and case studies. Academically, ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ also fosters connections with other universities at home and abroad, giving students the opportunity to undertake Exchanges and Study Away terms at these universities. We also have a vibrant program of Summer Undergraduate Research in Engineering (SURE), giving students the opportunity to undertake research in our labs. In short, there is no shortage of opportunities beyond the core curriculum.

I, therefore, invite you to investigate ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ, look through our web pages, ask questions and consider ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ as a place to undertake your studies, whether at the undergraduate or graduate level. ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ and Montreal have a wealth of opportunities to offer.
