Burnside Hall Room 934, 805 rue Sherbrooke Ouest, Montreal, QC, H3A 0B9, CA

Please join us as we welcome Dr. Rachel Y.-W. Chang, a Professor in the Department Physics and Atmospheric Science at Dalhouse University for a seminar titled "Aerosols in marine and polar environments". Coffee will be served.

Abstract

Oceans cover 70% of the earth's surface, yet their emissions into the atmosphere are still poorly characterized. This is also true of polar regions where oceans could be contributing to the composition of the atmosphere in the summer. This talk will cover three projects: sources and composition of summer time Arctic aerosol, production rate and properties of sea-spray aerosols generated with Arctic waters and finally droplet and aerosol properties during a coastal fog study. Results from this work are especially relevant to the Arctic summer as sea-ice coverage continues to decrease
