Expert: Right whale population continued to decline in 2021

The population of critically endangered North Atlantic right whales continued to decline in 2021, according to the latest estimate that puts the surviving population at 340. ()Ìý

"Although the trend in Canada is encouraging, we must continue to keep fighting not only to protect our whales but also to ensure they can get healthy enough to reproduce and help the population recover. Three years without one death in our waters is good news, but the overall population is still declining, and we need to remember this. 

Anaïs Remili is a whale researcher and PhD candidate in the Department of Natural Resource Sciences, specializing in Renewable Resources. She studies whale diets and their exposition to harmful contaminants.
