1. What prerequisite courses must I complete to be eligible for admission?
Applicants must have successfully completed the biological sciences and social sciences prerequisites by August, prior to admission to the program. Individuals who have begun preparation in another nursing program or who have completed a nursing preparation are not normally eligible.Â
2. Can I take some of the prerequisites on-line?
It is recommended to take no more than two biological sciences prerequisite courses on-line. Please consult with the an academic advisor for recognized on-line equivalent courses.
3. I have an undergraduate degree comprised of three certificates in either Arts or Science (i.e., bacc par cumul at Université de Montréal). Am I eligible for entry?
The total number of credits earned in the three certificates must be equivalent to the total credits required for an undergraduate degree at ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ University. Please check with an academic advisor.
4. Is there a January entry to the MSc(A) - Nursing program?
No. This three-year program (which includes a qualifying year) starts in September. Courses must be taken in sequential order and completed on a full-time basis.
5. I have a professional degree. Am I eligible?
See answer to Question 1. above.
6. How many applications do you receive and how many of these are admitted to the program?
On average, we receive about 85 applications and we can accept no more than 24 new students to the qualifying year.
7. Will this degree allow me to work like any other nurse?
The MSc(A) Direct-Entry program is an accredited entry-to-practice program. Graduates are required to write the licensing exam of the Order of Nurses of Quebec/Ordre des infirmières et infirmiers du Québec (OIIQ) in order to work in any hospital or community setting, as well as management and academic positions, in Quebec.
8. Do I have to upload all required admission documents at the same time?
Applicants upload documents once they have submitted their on-line application. All documents must be uploaded by the application deadline. For more information, visit the Applying to Graduate Programs in Nursing webpage.
9. How long is the program?
The program is 3 years in duration comprised of a qualifying year and two years at the master's level. In the qualifying year, students learn the basic principles, practice and theory of nursing. Elective courses are chosen on an individual basis depending on the student's background and must be approved by the academic advisor. The remaining two years include clinical and nursing theory courses, as well as a research project at the master's level.
10. I'm an international applicant and would like to have my transcript assessed in order to know if I meet the entry requirements. Who shall I contact?
Your transcript will be reviewed for equivalency only once you have completed the on-line application and have uploaded all documents. All admission requirements must be met. GRE or GMAT placement tests are not required.
