Research Approach - Domains and Research Strategies

The Schools' approach to research benefits from a strong sense of collaboration and interprofessionalism within the School of Physical & Occupational Therapy (SPOT) and beyond. From the premature infant to the frail elderly, from intensive care to the community and home-based care,Ìýfrom local to global communities, including prevention, intervention, chronic disease management and health promotion, these domains or areas are covered by SPOT researchers.

The numerous activities and programs are categorized into 7 research domains,Ìý8 research strategies, and 3 life stagesÌýas depicted in the diagram below.

Learn about each domain, strategy, and life stage in the table below and find a list ofÌýcorresponding researchers under each category.

A helical image with text in the middle hub, in the next outer layer and then a final thin layer on the outer perimeter. The central hub contains a list of seven domains of brain, education, global health, musculoskeletal, heart and lung, mental health, and pain. On the next layer, which appears to spiral and emanate from the hub, the eight research strategies are shown in separate sections, these are methodological innovations, therapeutic approaches, underlying mechanisms, technologies for health, promoting healthy living, participarory research, knowledge mobilization, and social, cultural, and ethical dimensions of health. The final outer layer contains the words childhood, adulthood and aging with slight arrows between each word, to indicate the flow across the lifespan.
