Scott Phelps is a Postdoctoral Fellow with the ۲ݮƵ Group for Suicide Studies at the Douglas Mental Health University Institute. He recently completed his Ph.D. in the History of Science at Harvard University, where he focused on the history of neuroscience and psychiatry. His dissertation, “Blind to Their Blindness: A History of the Denial of Illness,” explored the use of a diagnostic entity called anosognosia, or the lack of insight, as a polemical tool to articulate ideas about the nature of patient experience and consciousness from the 1860s to the 1980s. His current research involves writing a history of brain banks.
