Curriculum Structure

The four-year MDCM Program encourages students to always have “The Patient at Heart and Science in Hand.” To help our students understand the interactions between science, patients and themselves, the MDCM Program has adopted three longitudinal themes that are present throughout the four components of the curriculum.

The three curricular themes are:

  • Social Accountability, Population Health and Health Advocacy
  • Professional Identity and Practice (Physicianship)
  • Basic Science, Critical Thinking and Knowledge Translation

The four curricular components are:

  • Physicianship, longitudinally throughout all four years of the MDCM Program
  • Fundamentals of Medicine and Dentistry (FMD), during Year 1 and the first half of Year 2
  • Transition to Clinical Practice (TCP), during the second half of Year 2
  • Clerkship, during Years 3 and 4

The Curriculum schema provides an overview of the curricular components and associated courses.
