Building Resources and Bookings

Practice Rooms

Students must have a valid ۲ݮƵ ID card and be currently enrolled in a program offered by the Schulich School of Music to access the practice rooms. Eligible students can access the practice rooms 7 days a week from 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., year-round and including most public holidays. All students are required to abide by the regulations stipulated by the Practice Room Guidelines.

Practice rooms are available for individual practice, pairs, trios and small ensembles on a first-come, first-served basis.

  • Individual practicerooms are located on the third, fourth, and fifth floors of Strathcona Music Building's East Wing (E-300s E-400s E-500s) and do not require a reservation. 24-hour practice rooms are available at 550 Sherbrooke St, 11thfloor, and also do not require a reservation.

Small ensemble rehearsalsrequire reservations (seeRoom Bookingsbelow). Ad hoc booking requests are available after September 20 in the following rooms:

  • Mixed Ensembles |E-407, E-527, E-528
  • Medium and Large Ensembles | C-301, C-302, C-304, C-309, C-310
  • Two grand pianos | E-501
  • Classrooms | C-201, C-204, C-411+, C-412+
  • Jazz Combo rooms (available to jazz students only)|C-312, C-314,C-315
  • Seminar/Study Classrooms (performance bookings not permitted) | A-410, A-412, A-510, A-512, 550 Sherbrooke (1116, 1117, 1118)
  • Harpsichord and Organ Practice Rooms (available with authorization only) | C-526, C-527, C-528, C-529, C-530
  • Drum Practice Rooms(available with authorization only)

+Key Required

These rooms can also be booked for recordings for a maximum of two (2) hours per week and up to ten (10) hours per semester per person or ensemble.

Room Bookings (including Ensemble rooms)

"BOOKING" is the Schulich School of Music room booking system

Room reservation requests can be made by Schulich School of Music students enrolled in a music program . Requests may take up to two (2) business days to process.

ALL room reservations must comply with our booking policies and be made in the context of your academic courses and activities at the Schulich School of Music.

Room specifications:

  • Ensemble rooms are available to students when there are more than three participants. Drum sets and amplifiers are available in the ensemble rooms. In the event that ensemble rooms are not available, classrooms can be booked. For recording purposes, ensemble rooms and classrooms can be booked by one or two participants.
  • C-312, C-314 and C-315 are for the exclusive use of students in Jazz programs.
  • Early Music ensembles have priority to access C-413.
  • The person who made the reservation is given card access to the room. If a key is required, it can be obtained in the Building Director’s Office, E-223. The key must be returned after the booking.

Lockers

Locker Rental Application

  • Locker rentals can be made exclusively by currently registered Schulich School of Music students and staff.
  • Rentals are made by filling out the “Instrument Rental / Contract” form –
  • A valid ۲ݮƵ email address is required to fill out the form
  • All applications are pending approval and may take up to five (5) business days to process.
  • Incomplete forms will not be considered.
  • No fees
  • Locks à All staff and students must use a personal lock. The office does not provide locks.
  • The Building Director’s office reserves the right to reassign lockers based on appropriate needs.

Approved Locker Rentals

  • An email from the Building Director’s Office (E-223) will be sent upon approval with locker code and instructions.
  • The temporary lock assigned must be returned within one (1) week of the approval.
  • Lockers must be vacated renewed or vacated by yearly. After the deadline (October 8th, 2025), contents may be removed.

McGill University is not responsible for any losses, thefts, or damages to any personal items.
