Associate Dean's Message

Welcome to the School of Medicine’s Postgraduate Medical Education (PGME) program, part of ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ University’s Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences.

With over 75 accredited residency programs and more than 250 post-residency fellowship programs, we provide the clinical and academic expertise to allow you to go on to deliver the very best patient-centred care and research. Together with our partners in the School of Medicine – Undergraduate Medical Education (UGME) and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) – our goal is to instill in you the best quality medical education and investigative skills across a range of disciplines in clinical care and research settings.

As Canada’s first medical faculty, ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ has a long history of leading the country in patient care, education and research. This core mission has not changed. Our state-of-the-art facilities and diverse patient population attract the best and brightest faculty members who continue to lead the way in developing and sharing the very latest innovations and evidence-based practices. Our commitment to serving the community, educating tomorrow’s doctors and advancing biomedical research has made us Canada’s top medical-doctoral university and one of the top-rated medical schools in North America.

As a ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ resident or fellow, based at either of our two campuses – in Montreal or at our new French-language medical campus in Gatineau – you will have the opportunity to hone your skills in our many partner hospitals, institutes and clinics, including the ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ University Health Centre, the Jewish General Hospital, St. Mary’s Hospital Center, the Douglas Mental Health University Institute, and Hôpital de Gatineau, as well as our large network of community clinics, and rural and northern clinical settings.

ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ trainees play an essential role in serving the health care needs of Quebecers in Montreal and across a large area of Quebec through RUISSS ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ, which extends from Montérégie up through western Quebec to Nunavik. In addition, through our community outreach, you will have opportunities to work with and learn from vulnerable and diverse communities in both urban and rural settings, helping to empower them to improve their health status.

Being located in culturally and linguistically diverse Quebec influences the academic landscape of our University, and this diversity in and of itself is an important strength for ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ. Our mission, vision and values are aligned with our mandate to be inclusive and progressive, and to ensure that our programs are reflective of the populations that we serve. We hope you choose to continue your medical education journey with us, in this rich and vibrant environment.
