Nearly 60 Cree students their graduation from ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ University's Faculty of Education this past Saturday in Pikogan, Quebec. Our Office of First Nations and Inuit Education offers full-time and part-time teacher certification programs in Cree and Inuit communities in Quebec as well as in Kahnawake and Listuguj. Even though these students may be far away off campus, they are an important part of our Faculty and the ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ community.ÌýCBC's Susan Bell covered the story.

Artist-in-Residence Lou Sheppard is hoping to connect with students, faculty and staff in the facultyÌýwho speak languages other than English. They are collecting words that don’t have an English translation, as well as aÌýbrief attempt to describe what these words mean. These words, the descriptions, and your name (if you are willing to share) will be printed on posters and displayed around ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ campus.

The Mohawk community of Kahnawà:ke and ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ launched the first-ever Bachelor of Education (B. Ed.)ÌýFirst Nations and Inuit Education (FNIE)ÌýÌýprogram to be given in the community of Kahnawà:ke, on August 20.

It’s a labour of love between ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ’s Office of First Nations and Inuit Education (OFNIE) in the Faculty of Education, and theÌýKahnawà:ke Education CentreÌý(KEC). It’s also in line with ÎÛÎÛ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ’sÌýTask Force on Indigenous Studies and Indigenous Education.
